The Darkness era was an era of time in the galaxy from 616 ABY to 1,399 ABY. The era largely covered the fall of the Third Galactic Republic and the decay of galactic order, leaving the galaxy in a state of anarchy. The Darkness Era began with the Age of Wars in 616 ABY.

- The current Supreme Chancellor and the majority of the executive council is killed when a luxury cruiser crashes into and destroys 500 Republica.
- Various factions, including the Empire and the Hutt Cartels, attempt to usurp control of the galaxy from the crippled Republic.
- The Age of Wars begin.
- c. 625 ABY
- Coruscant falls to the Empire and the remaining Republic forces flee to Mon Calamari.
- c. 637 ABY
- A Sith Empire is formed by the ancient Sith Lord Darth Aerie.
- c. 650 ABY
- Corran Myec is born.
- c. 652 ABY
- Aerie's Sith Empire clash numerous times with the Jedi Order whose numbers have dropped dramatically.
- 666 ABY
- Darth Gneti activates the Pentar Device, beginning a galaxy-wide catastrophic event.
- The remaining Jedi seek out the Pentar Device and discovers its location beneath the surface of Korriban.
- Darth Gneti and Darth Sses dies.
- The Pentar Device is deactivated, averting galactic extermination.
- 667 ABY
- In the wake of the war's destruction, various individuals attempt to rebuild a galaxy-wide government from Coruscant.
- A lone Jedi, one of the last remaining, travels the galaxy searching for other trained Force sensitives.
- These individuals become the beginning the reborn Jedi Order.
- 668 ABY
- Corran Myec is found by the council, who later rejoins the Order as a Knight rather than as an honorary Master.
- 674 ABY
- Corran Myec ascends to the Sith Throne and adopts the title Darth Mavoc.
- Darth Mavoc rallies support in preparation for war against the Jedi.
- The Resurgency War begins.
- 675 ABY
- Darth Mavoc is believed to be killed during the Battle of Tython.
- 676 ABY
- Darth Mavoc dies.
- The Resurgency War is largely ended with Darth Mavoc's death.

- Sith acolytes operating out of the Unknown Regions infiltrating the Jedi Order.
