The DarkBird-class attack fighter was the primary fighter of the Necasian Military during the Cruentusian War. It was designed mainly for dogfighting, and to this end it was armed with a variety of anti-air weapons, mostly cluster missiles. Ammunition used in its weapons included Spearhead rounds. To increase manoeuvrability and speed, it was rarely fitted with heavy weaponry, and as a result it was poor when it came to ground assault. Nonetheless, the fighter ace Renard Curl invented a difficult manoeuvre known as the Renard slipstream that was effective against ground-based enemies, although it was very arduous to pull off. Like nearly all other fighters of the era, it operated best in an atmosphere, and had only limited space-travel capabilities. Most DarkBirds were equipped with stealth systems that made it invisible to most sensors.
