Caporegime
Talk1this wiki
A caporegime, usually shortened to just capo, was a person in either the Galactic Mafia or Human Mafia who was a high-ranking made man of a crime family who headed a "crew" of soldiers and had major influence in the organization. There were normally only two or three capos in a single crime family at any given time. A capo reported directly to the Don or the underboss, and held authority over soldiers, enforcers, and associates.

Operation
Edit
In the Mafia, when a Don, the boss of a crime family, made a decision, he passed instructions down through the chain of command. This ranking system protected the higher levels of the organization from incrimination if a lower level member should be captured by law enforcement or another family. A caporegime acted as an intermediary between the soldiers and the Don. In technical terms, a caporegime operated his own small family within the framework of a larger family. Each capo was in charge of a crew of soldiers and enforcers that could have ranged greatly in size.[1][2]
Capos had varying degrees of power. Some were relatives or close friends of the Don, which gave them more influence. A capo with an active crew that generated a lot of profits was always respected. A caporegime may also have had certain areas that he protected with his crew or certain racket.[1][2]
