"... if it weren't for the premonition I had... I would have been amongst the many in the Temple who had died that day... though I wish I could have done more..."
—Briarra Caalb

Briarra Caalb was a female Cathar Padawan. Highly adept in the Force, she had hoped to one day become a learner to Anakin Skywalker himself, holding a small crush on the handsome, yet embattled Jedi Knight. However, this would not be the case, as the Clone Wars ended, Emperor Palpatine declared the Jedi enemies of the Galactic Republic and traitors. Thus, Order 66 was executed, and many Jedi were slaughtered by Clone troopers who once were their allies. And at the Jedi Temple, Anakin, now Darth Vader had lead a contingent of Troopers, the 501st Legion, to kill any Jedi there, where they be Knights, padawans, or even defenseless younglings.

But Briarra had felt a strong premonition in her dreams, sensing an evil force was coming for them all, and that she too would die by this presence. Fearing the worst, Briarra tried to find as many survivors as she could, but failed in finding any. Distraught, she escaped the Jedi Temple, to live in the streets of Coruscant under cover from the newly formed Galactic Empire.

But shortly after helping an innocent woman deal with a small band of thugs, she was discovered by Clone Troopers, and was in danger of being gunned down on the spot, until she was rescued by, of all people, Aayla Secura, who Briarra believed to had died during the beginning of Order 66. But this was not the case; Aayla's Clone Commander, Bly, had in fact faked her death, along with four other Troopers... Booster, Kex, Jaing, and Silas... they had used high-powered stun bolts instead of live rounds, choosing loyalty over duty that fateful day. Bly had still remained with the Empire, but in secret, had delivered information to Aayla about their dealings. Briarra had wished that Aayla would take her in as her learner, but the Twi'lek Jedi was unsure, feeling as if it would be better if the two would eventually part ways.

The two eventually arrived on Tatooine, believing they would be relatively safe from the Empire there. There they had met Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had told them the truth about Anakin and Darth Vader, and the reason why Obi-Wan was staying on Tatooine, to watch over the newborn Luke Skywalker. Realizing the importance of the situation, Aayla decided that she and Briarra could not stay on Tatooine. But upon their attempts to leave the planet, they were intercepted by small contingent of Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers, lead by Obi-Wan's former Clone Commander, Cody, and arrested to be taken back to an orbiting Star Destroyer to be executed. But a rescue came in the form of Bly and the four Clone Troopers, and they, Aayla, and Briarra escaped, heading to Geonosis to once more attempt to hide from the Empire.

But even there, the Empire had managed to find them. Once again narrowly escaping, Briarra was seemingly lost in the conflict, but Obi-Wan had obtained information that she had been found and nursed back to health by a small group of smugglers who were anti-Empire. Under the alias of "Ariel Caalb," Briarra travels with them in the hopes that she would one day be reunited with her master, Aayla Secura.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Briarra is played by Ariel Bridges, a professional wrestler for the EAW, or Extreme Attitude Wrestling. She was called in by George Lucas to film extra scenes for Revenge of the Sith, where she played the innocent Briarra, interacting with Anakin, played by Hayden Christensen. She also filmed a scene where she valiantly fought and was slain by Vader; this became the "premonition" Briarra experienced in the spin-off story of Star Wars: Cerulean, where Briarra becomes the padawan of Aayla Secura, played by Amy Allen. Ariel is also slated to play Briarra once again in the planned sequel Star Wars: Cerulean II, set four years after the Great Jedi Purge. Computer generated effects are said to be used to make the fifteen year old Ariel look like the now-eighteen year old Briarra.
