Breakfast in Bedlam is the debut fan fiction novella written by Trak Nar. The story is set within a penal facility on Coruscant and focuses on the characters of Gawynn Karastee, Zuckuss, and Pepan Manja. The story covers Zuckuss's incarceration, with flashbacks to Pepan's murders, and explores the treatment of the mentally ill within the criminal justice system.

Summary[]

In the seedy underworld of the galaxy, bounty hunters pursue the violators of an unwritten code of conduct, but even these mercenaries are not immune to the law. Zuckuss, one of the galaxy's most infamous bounty hunters, finds himself caged with the very fugitives he has helped bring to justice. Sentenced to life with enraged inmates who hunger for his blood, Zuckuss will need more than his reputation and luck to survive, especially when faced with a serial killer with an insatiable appetite for revenge.

Behind the scenes[]

Written by Trak Nar primarily to introduce the character of Pepan Manja and unravel the circumstances surrounding Zuckuss's incarceration, Breakfast in Bedlam does not have a definitive resolution. The story served as Nar's exploration into the treatment of bounty hunters and the mentally ill within the criminal justice system.

Before the story was given its final title, it was listed under several working titles, including Eccentricities and Profiles of Madness. During that time, the Bedacus-Lambrecht Correctional Facility had not yet been identified. When the title Breakfast in Bedlam was finally chosen, fellow user Goodwood suggested to Nar that she name the titular penal facility to something that could be contracted to "Bedlam," making it an homage to the original Bedlam. The title itself is a play on the phrase "breakfast in bed," and Nar claims to have came up with the title while showering.

Nar does not consider herself to be a prolific writer and Breakfast in Bedlam is her first finished novella. Nar had at one time joked about writing sequels titled Lunchtime in Lockdown and Supper in Solitary, but has no current plans to do so. She claims that she told the story that she wanted to tell and does not wish to revisit it.
