Berndo c'osi Velgon was a male Askajian from Paleedu VII. He was recruited by the Galactic Republic as an agent to defend his remote homeworld from any incursion by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. Later, he led his homeworld in rebellion against the Imperial occupation.
Biography[]
He was born in a remote mining town in 48 BBY and he received a formal education until the age of ten, when he was sent to work in the mines. On the eve of the Clone Wars, he was approached by Republic Intelligence officer Ebbit Teeks and recruited him. He was sent to Coruscant for training and, following the Battle of Geonosis, was sent home as the sole defense against Separatist activity. For nearly two years he observed no activity on his neutral homeworld. But in 20 BBY, a Seperatist supertanker, the Spacewise Gargantelle, arrived in the Paleedu system protected by four HMP droid gunships that were modified for hyperspace. While the supertanker was parked on the ground for repairs, Velgon infiltrated the ship and planted a bomb aboard it which exploded as the ship was taking off.
In response, the Confederacy sent two commando droids to root out and eliminate Velgon. The droids collapsed a mine, killing several Aiyashi workers, and then they blew up a transport full of Akajian commuters. After they assassinated the Land Division Authority Chief Athun Ruxesk, Velgon was found and destroyed the droids before they could kill him. However, he exposed himself in the process and his superiors felt he was compromised and they extracted him. He was sent to Wayland to follow and assassinate several individuals. When the war ended in 19 BBY, Velgon refused to assassinate his final target, a Qonto businessperson named Klie Erkish.
Suspecting he would be targeted for his refusal, he escaped Wayland and hid on Yurb. A bounty of several thousand credits was put out for the capture of Velgon but in 5 BBY he returned to his homeworld and married an Askajian woman named Nilia. In 3 BBY the Empire took control of the Paleedu system and constructed numerous factories, especially on Paleedu VII. Oppressive conditions were set on the populace and numerous people turned to Velgon to lead them in resistance against the Imperials. Their activities mostly involved sabotaging Imperial equipment, although there were several shootouts with Imperial troops. Their first big operation occurred in 0 BBY when they assassinated a visiting Imperial dignitary named Lukrin Tawklar and also managed to simultaneously kill the slaver Ghennz Qorror. Due to the operation's success, Velgon skyrocketed to the Empire's Most Wanted List. The Rebel Alliance also noticed the operation and they made contact with the Paleedu resistance in 0 ABY.
After the meeting Alliance High Command decided that Velgon's continued stay on Paleedu VII was inviting Imperial retribution and they took him with them, leaving an Aiyashi named Eceallus Gervelti in charge of the local resistance operations. Velgo became a High Field Commander and coordinated small units operating in sabotage missions across the galaxy. He was killed by the assassin droid 2-124 while directing a raid on an Imperial facility in the Melida/Daan system in 4 ABY.
