As for drawing them out, we are making arrangements to rendezvous with the Interdictor cruiser Battleaxe en route to Ord Mantell, where we hope to intercept Darth Revan's fleet.

Battleaxe was an Interdictor-class cruiser, one of the few to remain in the service of the Galactic Republic in the wake of the Mandalorian Wars and throughout the Jedi Civil War. During the former conflict, the warship served primarily with the fleets of the Republic Navy under the command of Revan and Malak, and was one of the few survivors of the disastrous defeat in the Battle of Jaga's Cluster. As the ship needed extensive repairs, she was sent back to Corellia, where she remained when the newly-declared Dark Lord of the Sith declared war on the Republic.

HistoryEdit

An Interdictor-class cruiser that came off the ways in 3,962 BBY, Battleaxe served with the Republic Navy under the overall command of Revan and his forces during the Mandalorian Wars. At the Battle of Jaga's Cluster, the warship suffered heavy damage and was in danger of being overrun by Mandalorian shock troops. However, thanks to the efforts of the Republic Marines stationed aboard, led by Lieutenant Chek Nessai, the boarders were repelled, and Battleaxe was able to return to Corellia to affect repairs, which continued for the rest of the war, including the Battle of Malachor V.

By the time the Jedi Civil War erupted a year later, Battleaxe, under the command of Captain Nirkk Tethet, had returned to Republic service. Remaining within the Core Worlds, as the Sith offensive reached toward that part of the galaxy, the warship was tasked with leading the defense of Corellia and its vital shipyards. Nessai, meanwhile, had been promoted and assigned to the 3rd Marine Battalion, stationed aboard the Centurion-class battlecruiser Stalwart Defender.

In 3,956 BBY, Battleaxe was detached from her defensive role and assigned to rendezvous with a fleet of Hammerhead-class cruisers and Foray-class blockade runners under the command of Vice Admiral Forn Dodonna in order to participate in a critical mission. While en route to the meeting point, an uninhabited star system Coreward of Ord Mantell, the vessel was intercepted by the Interdictor cruiser Wrangler, whose decimated crew had hoped to find a Republic warship to surrender to. Captain Tethet convinced Lieutenant Commander Josef Farfax, Wrangler's temporary commanding officer, to accompany him to Dodonna's fleet.

During the battle with Darth Revan and Darth Malak's fleet over Ord Mantell, Battleaxe and her three squadrons of Aurek fighters worked in concert with the partially-repaired and -replenished Wrangler to provide heavy fire support and protect the Republic flagship, Vibrosword. The two ships also helped to ensure the safe passage of the Jarhead-class assault lander containing the 1st Marine Strike Platoon to and from Darth Revan's flagship, even as the battle plan fell to pieces with Darth Malak's unexpected betrayal. With Darth Revan captured the Republic fleet, including Battleaxe, left the system.

Behind the scenesEdit

The warship was first mentioned in the novella Star Wars: Saber Battalion by Sean "Goodwood" Nash, where she was described as being one of the only vessels of her class that remained in Republic service at the beginning of the Jedi Civil War. Battleaxe was given a much larger role in the novel The Last Full Measure, where she was to be the key factor in the Republic's attempt to capture the Dark Lord of the Sith.
