The Battle of Averam took place between the Battle of Gand and the Battle of Coruscant.
When the Republic began the invasion on Coruscant, they were planning to take the entire Coruscant Sector thus Averam, the Averam population supported the Empire in this invasion and so the Republic was crushed on Averam.
The battle took twelve days in the Galactic Civil War and was a heavy and a Pyrrhic victory with many losses both to the Galactic Empire and the New Republic

The battle was said to have been devastating to the Averam population, as over five thousand Averam rebels were killed in the battle. During the fifth day of the battle, Luke Skywalker infiltrated General Veers's AT-AT and injured him badly. Luckily for Veers, the Stormtroopers serving on the AT-AT entered the craft just before Skywalker killed Veers.
In the space there were many losses. Thousands of pilots and ships had been killed and destroyed. The Empire used all of its Hypervelocity Guns to eliminate many ships of the Republican fleet, and so the victory would have been Pyrrhic if it were not for the Gun. The battle was over when Skywalker saw that there was no point of fighting the Imperials on Averam when the population served the Empire, so the Republic fleet retreated
