Anchorhead was a settlement on Tatooine. Part of the Great Chott Salt Flat region, Anchorhead was one of the first settlements to be built. It was abandoned and resettled on more than one occasion throughout the centuries, but it was at the peak of its existence during the years before the Jedi Civil War when Czerka Corporation mined on the outskirts. However, the mining business eventually died away and Czerka left, forcing the settlement to fend for itself. Anchorhead eventually picked itself back up again once Jabba the Hutt made it the site of one of his regional offices constructed out of the old Hunting Lodge. Many people returned to the settlement after that point and it became an outpost for several nearby moisture farms, including the Lars Farm. People such as Annikin Skywalker and Kitster Banai spent a great deal of time there when they did not have chores to do. Many species gathered in Anchorhead, including Jawas who often referred to it as "Old City New".

Anchorhead was one of the oldest settlements on Tatooine, having been established in 4,200 BBY. Located nearly eight hundred kilometers from Mos Eisley Spaceport, it was originally a mining outpost. It was abandoned and resettled many times, as each mining company came to realize that the ore located in the area was of poor quality. The most notable mining operation was carried out by Czerka Corporation in 3,956 BBY, an operation which allowed Anchorhead to greatly grow in size and population. These companies abandoned their equipment each time due to the cost of transporting it off world. The indigenous Jawas would often take the abandoned equipment as their own. This gave rise to the use of Sandcrawlers, which were mobile smelting machines, as homes for the Jawas.[1]
During the Jedi Civil War, Anchorhead was visited by Revan, Bastila Shan, Carth Onasi and their other companions during their quest for the Rakatan Star Forge. At the time, Czerka Corporation's mining operations were going poorly, as the ore was substandard and word was getting out. Though Motta the Hutt established a Swoop racing track and the Ithorian Fazza Utral built a hunting lodge, attracting other forms of business to fill company coffers wasn't working either. Worst of all, ore shipments were being intercepted and destroyed by frequent Sandpeople attacks. Revan offered his assistance and was able to earn the Tusken Raiders' trust enough to negotiate with them. They would not agree to stop the attacks, but the Sandpeople did agree to reduce them and to free some of their prisoners.[1]
Czerka pulled out soon afterward and Anchorhead was abandoned. A population remained in the settlement, though the numbers were greatly reduced. A few hundred years before the Invasion of Utapau, Jabba the Hutt set up a fortress in the heart of the city. Many people returned to the settlement after that point and it became an outpost for several nearby moisture farms, bringing in a great deal of money to establishments such as the Anchorhead Cantina.[2]
