Anakin Tan Skywalker was a Force-sensitive Human male who served the Galactic Empire first as a Jedi Knight, then later as the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Born to moisture farmers Kane and Nellith Skywalker on Tatooine, he spent his formative years on the arid desert planet, raised alongside his sister Beru. In the later years of the Clone Wars, he was apprenticed to Obi-Wan Kenobi and met Nashira DuQuesne, his future wife and mother of his two children, Luke and Leia.

Towards the end of the Third Clone War, Skywalker and Kenobi were stranded on the dying world Xuthltan, where they encountered the vengeful spirit of Nykres Eikhan, a Kissai priestess of the Sith Empire who had died in the years following the Great Hyperspace War and Sith Purge. Attacked by the ghost, Skywalker was shown disturbing visions of the past and the future -- visions which destroyed his faith in the Jedi religion and spurred him to seek out the spirits of the long-dead Lords of the Sith interred on the Sith mausoleum world of Korriban.

Appointed Lord of the Sith by his spectral predecessors, Skywalker was put to the task of restoring the Sith Brotherhood. For the next seventeen years he searched the Known Regions of the Galaxy, seeking out remnants, descendants, and relics of the Old Sith, collecting them and bringing them to the remote rain-drenched world of Vjun, which he made the baseworld for his Resurrected Brotherhood of the Sith.

Eventually, in the year leading up to Dantius Palpatine's ascension of the Imperial throne, the Sith were discovered on Vjun by agents of the Empire. In a mission led by the Jedi master Mace Windu, the Empire decimated the Sith base, annihilating the Resurrected Brotherhood. With everything he had known taken from him, Skywalker was induced to side with Palpatine; pledging his allegiance to the supreme chancellor, he was made one of his dark side adepts and enforcers. Stationed on the volcanic world of Mustafar with his last surviving follower, Kenobi's own adopted son and former apprentice Darth Vader, Skywalker encountered his old Jedi teacher. Engaging him in a fierce duel, Skywalker and Vader came close to defeating Kenobi, but at the last moment Vader turned against his Sith master, striking off Skywalker's right hand and saving his father's life. Calling one of Vader's two lightsabers to his remaining hand, Skywalker engaged Vader in battle, driving them both to the edge of a magma-filled canyon, where they were both consumed in a volcanic eruption.

Skywalker survived the experience, but not unscathed. Not only had he lost most of his lower body and received irreparable damage to his lungs, but he suffered severe brain trauma, leaving him with almost total amnesia. Found by the chancellor's agents, the Lord of the Sith was taken back to Coruscant and the chancellor, who rebuilt him using advanced cybernetics and his own skills in the dark side, remolding the Sith's ravaged body and mind, transforming him into the ebon-armoured Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader.
