"Do you even listen to yourself when you speak?"
"Yeah, of course -
especially when I'm saying nice things about myself."
Eva Pah'ker and Alias Sibul

Alias Sibul was a professional thief known for his ability to accomplish the most difficult of heists, and for his eccentric personality. The Coruscant-born Twi'lek orphan grew to be a man of contradictions. He was a womanizing, selfish jokester, but retained some honor and morality. Through his love for special agent Azure Illiem, he even came to work for the New Republic Intelligence Service.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Early Life

"Terrible things happen to people I love. Or they do terrible things."
—Alias Sibul

Alias's mother died when he was only eight years old, and his father left him to join a group of anti-Imperial criminals. Alias lived on the streets of Imperial Center, getting by day-day picking pockets. His self-taught skills expanded to larger and more profitable crimes as he aged. By his eighteenth birthday, Alias was a competent burglar able to pay rent on a small apartment and the hospital bills of his sick girlfriend Bellenaomé.

A year later, he was reunited with his father, who offered him a job on the behalf of Tiriko Zephyr. The target was the Vendici corporation, and the take a combat stimulant codenamed "Mandate of Heaven." The drug was being developed with the intention of aiding the Imperial war effort. Alias successfully stole the Mandate of Heaven, but Vendici himself was unintentionally killed in the course of the job. Alias brought the drug back to Zephyr, but destroyed it rather than help the group he deemed evil. He nearly died of a blaster wound he suffered while escaping Zephyr's compound. The brush with his gangster father was the catalyst for Alias's decision to abstain from meaningful connections with others. He said goodbye to Bellenaomé - at this point cured - and left Imperial Center an emotionally closed-off man.

[edit] Criminal Career

"Hello. My name is Alias Sibul. I deal in the impossible."
—Alias Sibul

Alias would do almost any job for the right pay. His diverse career included burglary, long and short cons, corporate espionage, courier work, and much more. Sometimes he worked for a paying client, and sometimes on his own if there was a direct payout inherent to the crime. Throughout his career, Alias worked for and against many underworld figures. He even established something of a friendship with Lando Calrissian after attempting unsuccessfully to rob him on Cloud City.

In 10 ABY, he aided Remy Diabet and Jav Yonx in retrieving the Eye of the Force from an Imperial bunker for a fee. This was his first meeting with the detectives, with whom he had neither a deep nor amicable relationship. However, Alias was quite taken with their associate Messuni Roserain. He spent the majority of the job directing fruitless come-ons at the human woman. She was particularly annoyed by the nickname of "Angel" he gave her. A few days after the Eye of the Force had been successfully stolen, the Dark Jedi Nirug Lossk tracked Alias down and interrogated him as to its whereabouts. Alias defied Lossk, and suffered numerous burns for it. Alias encountered the detectives and Messuni again two years later, on Eruian. Remy and Messuni were at that point involved in a serious relationship, but Alias's advances were largely undeterred. It was only at their wedding that Alias finally ended his pursuit, though he still refused to acknowledge that the feelings were never mutual.

[edit] Intelligence

"Doesn't sound like much fun."
"He means it doesn't sound like much violence.
"
—Azure Illiem translating for Alias Sibul

Even while still a wanted thief, Alias did a handful of missions as a private contractor for Alliance and New Republic Intelligence in both official and unofficial capacities. His closest working relationship was with Special Agent Aria "Azure" Illiem and her partner Indigo. He was enamored with Azure in much the same way as Messuni. The feeling was similarly unrequited. Years later, after the Yuuzhan Vong War, Alias helped the pair eliminate Network moles from the organization. With Alias severely wounded by a Network assassin in a battle within Intelligence headquarters, Azure finally admitted that the attraction was mutual. Alias recovered from his injuries and made a dramatic life change. He ended his extralegal activities and joined Intelligence as a permanent agent. Alias rationalized this by pointing out the similarities between spies and criminals - and the key difference that one had a steady paycheck. He and Azure were married within a year.
