You're reckless, little one. You never would have made it as Obi-Wan's Padawan...but you might make it as mine.
Anakin Skywalker[src]

Ahsoka Tano was a female Togruta Jedi Padawan during the Clone Wars. She was assigned by Grand Master Yoda to be the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, who nicknamed her Snips. Together with Skywalker, Ahsoka was involved in a number of battles against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, such as the Battle of Christophis and the successful rescue of Jabba the Hutt's son.

As her war-time training continued, Tano participated in more battles, such as the destruction of the Separatist superweapon Malevolence, the rescue on the Tranquility, the raid on Nuvo Vindi's laboratory, the First Battle of Felucia, and the First Mission to Mustafar—on the latter, she helped foil a plot orchestrated by Darth Sidious himself. She also became one of the few Jedi to survive a duel with the droid General Grievous.

As the conflict raged on, she learned that its politics were not as black and white as she once thought and eventually entered into a relationship (and marriage) with Lux Bonteri, son of former Confederate senator Mina Bonteri.

During the conflict, Ahsoka became senator of her homeworld of Shili, in addition to her duties as a Jedi. After the war, she narrowly evaded Order 66, and went into hiding with her husband Lux, while he served in the Imperial Senate. After going into hiding, she took on Lux's surname in order to hide her identity from Imperial authorities, as the name Tano was among the wanted list throughout the Great Jedi Purge (19 BBY–1 ABY). When Ahsoka and Lux joined the Rebellion, she proclaimed herself a Jedi Knight and influenced the outcome of the Galactic Civil War (2 BBY–19 ABY). One year after the Battle of Yavin, she gave birth to a Togruta-Human hybrid named Marina. After the conflict, she became a member of the New Jedi Order's council.

After joining the New Jedi Order, she trained several Padawans, including her own daughter. She also fought in the Yuuzhan Vong War (25–29 ABY), the Swarm War (36 ABY), and the Second Galactic Civil War (40–41 ABY). After participating in these three wars, she helped maintain peace for another ten years before finally retiring from the council. Ahsoka enjoyed sixty-three years of peace with Lux before dying peacefully in her sleep in 114 ABY in her Coruscanti home at the age of 150.

Biography[]

Final year of the Clone Wars[]

Battle of Raxus, and reunion with Lux[]

Ahsoka Tano: “Surrender, Separatist!
Lux Bonteri: “That voice… Is that… Ahsoka?
Ahsoka Tano: “Lux?

— Ahsoka and Lux reunite

As the third year of the Clone Wars began, Ahsoka became more powerful in the ways of the Force, and more confident. Anakin recommended the Jedi Council for her to take the trials, but they refused, saying she was not yet ready, and there was still more for her to learn from him.

A few days following this, Ahsoka was assigned to take part in an invasion of the Confederate capital planet of Raxus. Aware of the fact that Lux Bonteri lived on that planet, and not knowing whether he was still on it or not, she felt very uneasy about committing such an act.

Breaking the blockade[]

As the fleet approached Raxus, Ahsoka led Blue Squadron to engage the enemy fighters while Skywalker commanded Gold Squadron and Plo Koon commanded Bravo. While keeping the Vulture droids and droid tri-fighters at bay, Admiral Yularen's ships destroyed several Confederate ships and broke through the blockade. With the enemy in retreat, Ahsoka was commanded by Skywalker to join him in meeting the invasion force, which had just arrived on the surface.

The surface[]

As soon as Ahsoka and Anakin landed they immediately joined a firefight that began as soon as their forces landed in a small village. With a great struggle, the droids were pushed away. Before they could follow, Tano and Skywalker ordered them not to. Just as they were about to go over the plans once more, a confederate assassin aimed a shot at Ahsoka. She deflected the shot back at him, hitting his shoulder. Telling him to surrender, the boy recognized her voice and removed his helmet, revealing himself as Lux Bonteri. Once Ahsoka got a good look, she recognized him, and ordered the men to stand down. Saying they missed each other, they embraced after not having seen each other in so long, and got to talking. By nightfall, the Republic had landed over 5,000 troops in the village and set off for the capital to the south, while Master Kenobi's forces, who landed elsewhere, proceeded north. To provide help, Lux provided Ahsoka and her forces with full schematics of the capitals defense plans.

Taking the capital[]

By morning Tano and Skywalker's invasion force arrived on the outskirts of the capital. Using Lux's information, Ahsoka told the AT-TEs exactly where to fire, reducing enemy ranks and limiting civilian casualties. With their way clear, Tano's forces made their way into the city but still encountered resistance, in the form of droids and locals. After fight after fight, and suffering many loses, Tano, Rex, and Lux secured the senate building, while Skywalker and Cody took the Prime Minister's residence. They also received word from Kenobi that the northern hemisphere was in Republic hands. Just as they were about to join Skywalker, they were halted by Dooku himself.

Both warriors drew their lightsabers and a duel began. Ordering Rex, Lux and her men not to interfere, she engaged Dooku for the first time. Though Ahsoka fought her best, Dooku gained the upper hand and, after taunting her, prepared to deliver the killing blow, only for Lux to get in the way and take the blow himself. After Dooku withdrew his lightsaber, Rex and the clones fired on him and chased him out. Still alive, Lux deliriously told Tano that he loved her, shocking Ahsoka greatly.

Aftermath[]

After the battle Ahsoka, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Rex and Cody, were ordered off the planet and back to Coruscant. While the others gave their report to the council and Chancellor, Tano refused to leave Lux's side in the sick bay, in spite of the medical droids' assurances that he would recover. Once Lux awoke, Tano berated him for getting in the way like that, but Lux just smiled and said that he couldn't bear seeing her get hurt or worse. With those words of comfort in mind, Tano kissed Lux on the cheek and finally left him to recuperate.

Senator or Jedi[]

Ahsoka Tano: “The queen of Shili has asked me to become the new senator. Should I accept?
Yoda: “Know, we do not.
Mace Windu: “It is often wise for a Jedi to stay out of politics. But in the past, Jedi were chancellors.
Yoda: “Suspect things in the senate, we do. Join whether or not, your decision it is.
Ahsoka Tano: “I will give it some thoughts, masters.
— Ahsoka asks the council for advice

A few weeks after returning from Raxus, Tano witnessed the senate session in which the world was readmitted to the Republic with Lux as its new senator. Ahsoka was also now in a relationship with Lux. While enjoying the limited time she could have with him, due to her duties as a Jedi and the fact that they had to keep it secret from the council, she was pondering a request the queen of Shili had personally given her. The current senator of Shili was retiring and the queen wanted Ahsoka to take his place.

Unsure of what to do, Ahsoka asked the Jedi Council about it. Telling her that it was sometimes best for a Jedi to remain out of politics, and that Jedi were chancellors in the past, they left it to her to make the final decision. Ahsoka asked her political mentor Padmé Amidala and her good friend, Riyo Chuchi for advice as well. Both encouraged her to go for it, and offered their advice as politicians. Ahsoka personally didn't think she belonged in the senate, but Padmé said that that was the point and someone like her would keep them honest. Still unsure, Ahsoka asked her master about this and he said that, as long as she could still do her duties as a Jedi in the order and the GAR, there was no reason she couldn't be a senator as well.

After discussing it with a few more friends of hers, including Lux, Ahsoka took some personal time to meditate on her situation. After witnessing another debate, in which the senate tried, once again, to decide on how best to end the war, Ahsoka made her final decision: she would take up the queen on her request to join the senate. Telling the council about her decision, she promised to keep up with her duties as a Jedi, and keep them informed of the senate's activities, as she too didn't trust several of the senators. After informing Padmé, Riyo, and Lux, they welcomed her into the senate with open arms and, with her friends as her guide, her career as a politician began.

Parentage truth[]

Legal smuggling[]
Ahsoka Tano: “Hondo, it was only after you learned my name that you agreed to listen to my proposition. Because that's what we wanted, and because we needed you, I didn't press the matter. I'm not a simpleton Ohnaka. You knew my father.
Hondo Ohnaka: “I knew him. Probably one of the few who knew him as Ahoka Tano. Everyone else just called him Bluehorn, or Bluehorn Jack.
Ahsoka Tano: “Bluehorn?
Hondo Ohnaka: “Good man. Good pirate. I swear you look just like him.
―Ahsoka and Hando discuss Ahsoka's father on a truce mission

Within days after her appointment to the senate, Ahsoka was assigned her first political mission. She was to persuade the leader of the Ohnaka pirate gang, Hondo Ohnaka, to help them smuggle valuable items through Confederate territory to Coruscant from recently captured Iego. Though they were never properly introduced, Ahsoka knew him from her experience on Florrum, and was uneasy about dealing with "scum" like Ohnaka.

Bringing a clone squad known as Rancor as an escort, Ahsoka set out for Florrum. Upon arrival, Tano and Rancor Squad were greeted by Hondo himself and were welcomed inside. After trying to explain why they were here, Hondo took no interest and declined before the proposal was made. Before shooing them away, he asked for Ahsoka's name. When she gave it, the Weequay said it was a feminine version of the name Ahoka, and a good strong name, and that she was no doubt named for her father. It was at this that Hondo changed his mind and decided to listen. With his full attention, Ahsoka explained what they needed from them.

There was a very valuable piece of technology on newly conquered Iego that Coruscanti scientists wanted to examine. However, they would have to go through Confederate territory to get it to Coruscant, and they couldn't risk Venator-class ships getting ambushed on the way. So, Hondo was to use his transports to courier the item to the capital. Knowing how honorable the Republic was, Hondo agreed.

After leaving Iego with the piece of tech on one of Hondo's ships, Ahsoka questioned Hondo about her father, as it was only after learning her name that he agreed to listen. Admitting that he knew her father, Hondo explained that most people called him Bluehorn or Bluehorn Jack, as he was once a pirate himself. Tano refused to believe this and stormed off. After leaving hyperspace for a fueling stop on Malastare, the ship was attacked by Separatist frigates while trying to leave. Aided by the spacecraft of the local Dugs, Ahsoka, Hondo and the crew were able to get out of the action and right on their way to Coruscant.

Once they arrived at their stop, they were greeted with enthusiasm by Chancellor Palphatine, the Jedi Council and several senators. As they were about to leave, Hondo said that her father would have been proud of Ahsoka, and she would have made a grand pirate. Ahsoka still refused to believe that her father had been a pirate, but Hondo said it was in her blood. Once Hondo left, Ahsoka confided what Hondo had told her with Anakin, and that she decided to find out the truth herself.

The truth[]

Over the next several days following Ahsokas successful mission, she searched sleeplessly for any trace of her father in the Jedi Archives. She searched through records of old Jedi, former military officers and politicians, even arrested criminals. After finding squat, she soon faced the fact that Ahoka Tano hadn't been famous enough to be in the temple library. Still desperate for the truth, Ahsoka decided to pay another visit to Florrum. This time to hear Hondo out on what he had told her. Padme and Anakin advised her against returning to Florrum for something like this, but Tano sternly said that she needed to know. But she heeded their advice to be careful all the same.

As soon as she arrived on Florrum, Ahsoka was greeted by Hondo with open arms. After refusing a drink, Ahsoka began to interrogate Hondo (more or less) about her father. Hondo, once again, admitted that he knew him. He also reminded her that he was a good man as well as a good pirate. Still finding this extremely difficult to believe, Ahsoka asked Hondo to tell her more.

Hondo told her all he knew: Ahoka Tano was a member of his first pirate gang. Eventually they grew to trust each other so much that Hondo made him his partner. Then in 40 BBY, he met Ahsoka's mother. Ahoka kept his beloved a secret from him due to the pirate code. It was only after a certain event that Hondo learned about her. Then, around a few months before Ahsoka was born, Ahoka was killed in an Koruun ambush while, on a smuggling mission, passing by Haruun Kal, during the Summertime War (51 BBY–22 BBY), which ended a few months previously. After that, Hondo moved to Florrum and started the gang he had now.

Ahsoka knew the rest, but was disappointed that Hondo could give her no information about her mother, as neither of them knew her. With the truth now in mind, Ahsoka returned to Coruscant and told her master and friends. All expressed sympathy to what she had learned, but were glad that she now knew the truth about her family past.

Discovery in the Unknown Regions[]

Where are we?
—Ahsoka Tano upon seeing an unknown world

The Jedi council soon got wind of a new, larger, gravitational bomb in construction by the separatists. Determined not to let it go off, the council dispatched Tano, Skywalker, Kenobi, Rex and Cody with a large group of ships of the Open Circle Fleet to seize or destroy it. Despite protests, Senators Amidala and Bonteri saw fit to come along.

Once they arrived in the Ando system where it was being constructed, Both Ahsoka and Anakin led the fighter squadrons to take out the enemy fighters guarding the Lucrehulk-class battleship that held the bomb, while Obi-wan and Yularen commanded the fleet set to destroy the enemy frigates. After several hours of intense combat and losses, the separatist droid commander ordered the bomb jettisoned and detonated. Once the Republic forces saw what they were trying to do, Tano and Skywalker ordered all fighters back to the fleet. Everyone got back on board just as the bomb blew. Instead of destroying everything in the area, the bombs explosion opened a black hole. Nothing managed to escape the gravitational pull, but instead of destroying the republic fleet, it sent them to the other side of the Galaxy.

Once everyone came too, Anakin's first question was where the Separatists were. Ahsoka told him to forget about the separatists and asked where they were, as she didn't recognize the planet they had been sent to. After a quick galactic scan, Kenobi told them that they were in an arm of the Unknown Regions not too far from the boundary of the known galaxy. Seeing a small space station orbiting the unknown planet, Tano and the others deduced that the world was populated and suggested that they go make themselves known. Taking a NU-class shuttle escorted by several fighters and gunships, Tano and the other fleet commanders, and the senators, made their way into the atmosphere. Before they could land, they were met by a group of local aircraft. After establishing contact, and identifying themselves as friendly, the locals escorted them to a city they called Washington D.C.. Once they landed they greeted them and were in turn welcomed to their planet, which they called Earth, and America.

Taking temporary residence in the White House, the President of the U.S. explained what Earth was about, and Ahsoka's group in turn briefed them on what was going on across the galaxy, for several days. Ahsoka, along with the others, soon learned that Earth, being a divided world, was not a peaceful world. After reading through Earths history records, Ahsoka learned that the division of the planet went all the way back to when humans first evolved on it.

Defending the planet[]

After only two of the planets weeks, the Separatist fleet that the task force had been sent to destroy had turned up in the Earth system. Not willing to let the planet fall into separatist hands, the republic forces, aided by the Air Forces of several nations, engaged them in Earths upper atmosphere. After several hours of struggle, the entire enemy fleet was destroyed. After the fight, Ahsoka, along with Anakin and the other clone pilots, were awarded the Silver Star by the president himself out of gratitude of protecting their planet and preserving their freedom. Ahsoka and her fellow officers promised never to reveal the existence of Earth the Galactic Senate, and by doing so, keep them out of the war. With their job done, Ahsoka left with the others back to the main Galaxy, and the war.

Second Fall to the Dark Side[]

Ahsoka Tano: “The Son has given me more power than I ever dreamed.
Padme Amidala: “And for this you turn your back on everything you believe in?
Ahsoka Tano: “Don't make it sound so simple, or act like you know me. Anakin, being my Jedi mentor, was like a father to me.
Padme Amidala: “And I was your political mentor. What was I to you, like your mother? Answer me Ahsoka!
Ahsoka Tano: “I-I...
— Padme and Ahsoka argue over Ahsoka's decision on Teth

Personality and traits[]

While Tano's Jedi training was meant to bring out the good side of her personality, she was also plagued by several more aggressive tendencies, some stemming from her Togrutan predator nature. When in combat, she displayed an extreme determination to win at all costs. Similar to her master's disposition, she would also occasionally sulk when things didn't go her way. She often talked down to others in battle, behaving as if she was superior to them, mirroring the attitude of her master. This extended to her behavior towards enemies, as she often came up with degrading pet names for them, such as referring to the IG-100 MagnaGuards as "stick-tinnies", and even dismissing Grievous as "just another tinny".

In accordance with her predatory Togrutan nature, she was known to be quite aggressive in her postures and actions; willing to use terror and threats as a means to get information. Even though Tano obviously did not intend to follow through with any of these threats, her behavior caused concern on the part of the venerable Jedi Master Luminara Unduli, who felt Tano's actions were not in accordance with the Jedi way.

Ahsoka Tano absolutely adored being with her master and was proud of her position as his apprentice, though Skywalker did not realize this. Tano immediately adopted a very informal attitude with Skywalker, nicknaming him "Skyguy." However, once something of a formal Master-Padawan relationship had been established, Tano addressed Skywalker as "Master" just as a Padawan was expected to do. In retaliation for his dubbing as "Skyguy," Skywalker began to refer to her as "Snips" from time to time because of her feisty personality.

Tano was prone to overconfidence, believing strongly in Skywalker's teachings of following what you believe even if it means being a little reckless. However, Tano sometimes took this too far, even refusing to follow orders from her own master and others; as was the case in the Battle of Ryloth, when she got most of her clone squadron killed when she refused to pull back, believing in her own skills above all else, and ignoring the fact that the rest of her fighters were getting shot down. Tano was also known to disregard the safety of the clones under her command when she behaved like this, in the First Battle of Felucia as she refused to let her troops be extracted, believing she could win the battle, despite Skywalker and Kenobi's warnings that more droids were coming. Moments after forcibly being extracted, the Separatist reinforcements that Skywalker and Kenobi warned her of, arrived and overran her position, and within seconds destroyed her vehicles, which would have resulted in the death of all her troops and herself, if not for her masters' intervention. Her overconfidence also nearly got her killed by Cad Bane.

Despite these traits, Tano was very selfless and was willing to sacrifice herself if necessary as proven when she and Barriss Offee blew up a droid factory on Geonosis even though they were still inside it. She also tried to persuade Skywalker not to open a holocron for the bounty hunter Cad Bane, despite the fact that Bane would kill her if Skywalker didn't open it, and offered to trade herself for a pair of Twi'leks who were held hostage by Cassie Cryar. Tano would also often apologize for her mistakes. She was also honest and never tried to deflect blame onto others and she didn't hesitate to tell the Jedi Council about her mistakes during the Battle of Felucia.

Despite her tendency to get her clones killed, Tano could get upset if clones died because of her mistakes. She appeared to be friendly with Captain CC-7567, aka Rex.

Tano also appeared to be good with children judging by the way she looked after Rotta and the children that were kidnapped by Cad Bane. When General Grievous sent the Jedi Order a message, telling them about his capture of Eeth Koth, Tano comforted some younglings who were watching the hologram.

Tano made her Padawan braid out of silka beads and wore an akul-tooth headdress on her forehead.

Powers and abilities[]

Lightsaber training[]

Though Tano was a Padawan, she was very skilled in lightsaber combat for someone of her age. She made use of the unorthodox Shien reverse grip during combat. However, she would utilize the standard grip at the insistence of her master. In addition to being skilled in Shien, Tano also received training in Ataru and was learning Djem So under her Master. Skywalker also gave her training in the early levels of Niman as an exercise, as well as engaging in numerous hours of quarterstaff training to prepare her for opponents wielding saberstaffs. Her technique consisted of rapid switches and feints, darting from one side of the battleground to the other to exhaust her opponent. Tano's combat skills were clearly quite considerable, as she was able to defeat three MagnaGuards single handed and at least temporarily hold her ground against Asajj Ventress. At some point during the clone wars Tano began to learn Jar'Kai, wielding a shoto along with her original lightsaber.

Force powers[]

Tano possessed a strong connection to the Force, and often used it to perform the Force Jump power and other acrobatic feats. Although Tano's Force powers required more training, she was capable of performing extensive telekinetic feats, as seen during the Battle of Christophsis where she pulled down a large wall in order to save Skywalker from a group of retail droids. Tano was also skilled in the use of the Force push power, which she used to save the life of Luminara Unduli.

Tano also had a strong Force sense, able to sense the presence of Plo Koon after his fleet was destroyed by the Malevolence and the presences of the children who were kidnapped by Cad Bane. She also eventually learned the Jedi Mind trick.

Other abilities[]

In addition to her Force powers and lightsaber combat skills, Tano possessed advanced visuospatial awareness, aided by the hollow spaces in her montrals that gathered information ultrasonically. This passive echolocation was a Togrutan ability which allowed Tano to sense the proximity and movement of physical objects around her. She used this to great effect during the Battle of Christophsis, toppling a wall on top of Anakin Skywalker and a number of droids he was fighting, timing it so that Skywalker was cleared by a broken gap in the falling slab, whereas the droids were crushed.

Tano was also a talented pilot and also displayed potential as a skilled war strategist by leading an attack that penetrated a Separatist blockade on Ryloth.[1] Tano was also trained by her master to quickly analyze technical scans of enemy ships.

Tano also displayed skill in hand to hand combat as she was able to easily overpower Cad Bane before dropping her guard and being incapacitated by the bounty hunter.[2] She later used her hand to hand combat skills on Mandalore by single-handedly defeating a group of the Mandalorian Secret Service[3] and later holding off several guards and subduing Prime Minister Almec despite being handcuffed at the time.[4] However on this occasion she armed herself with one of the guards' shields which she used to fend them off and defend herself from a stun gun.
