- Mars Colony declares independence from the Union of Earth States and wins home rule, becoming the Republic of Mars, however the Republic of Mars is de facto ruled by the Union Senate, due to the continued loyalty of Mars to the Union.
- Due to the independence of Mars the 135 year old organisation called Martian Colonial Affairs, which dealt with the affairs of the Mars Colony, is dissolved.
