This page is an archive of the discussion about a selecting hosts for the Third Star Wars Fanon Wiki Awards. The decision was that Brandon Rhea and Squishy Vic would be the hosts of the awards for 2008.' - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 00:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC) Though the last two Star Wars Fanon Wiki Awards were held in June of their respective year, it is believed by me and a few others that they should be held around the beginning of the year so the awards can be for the articles of the previous year. For example, the 2008 Star Wars Fanon Wiki Awards would be in the winter (January or February) and would be for articles from 2007, as opposed to articles from 2007 and 2008 if it was held in June. Before we even begin with nominations for articles or anything else for that matter, we need to select a host. We can do this through consensus rather than a vote. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 06:38, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Previous Hosts
- First Wiki Awards: Darth Vacatour
- Second Wiki Awards: Jasca Ducato
Consensus
Personally, I’d like to run the Wiki Awards this time around, so it’d be great (obviously ) if you guys agreed with that. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 06:38, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
I am one of those who agrees to have the Wiki Awards in the beginning of the year. To be honest, I don't really like the idea of the Wiki awards, so rules would definitely be implemented that weren't before. Basically, rework the entire Wiki awards idea and the way things run. I nominate myself for host, although if not I, I support Brandon. --Victor, Sr. HoloNet 209 06:48, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know if I'm eligible to vote or whatever, but I certainly think a more organized, better laid out Wiki Awards would definitely benefit the community. For example, make the community vote on awards- not a tedious vote for each one, but perhaps a modification of parliamentary procedure. I.e.- I nominate x award for inclusion in the Third Wiki Awards and then it needs, say, five "seconds" for approval with a possibility for voting against. Keep it simple. I mean, the formatting on the second one was . . . interesting to say the least. And I like the idea of having it earlier in the year. And no, I don't want to host. I'd be too sarcastic- like having Stephen Colbert host the Oscars. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 06:58, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, the rules on the second one were very odd, unorganized, and unfair, in some ways. I think what you propose is a good idea. Once that's done, the host himself/herself nominates at least 3 articles in each of those possible categories so that we don't have a standalone nominee/lone contender, as we did in the 2nd Wiki Awards. Once that's all setup, users can then nominate articles as well in each category. Then once that is done, we vote, and only one vote per category from each user (to prevent stacking). That's just what I propose. More detailed rules will be posted later, as we discuss them and such, post-Host selection. --Victor, Sr. HoloNet 209 07:03, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I can't vote, and obviously DV (Infamous vandal) and Mr. Ducato (rarely here) shouldn't host. I think either Vic or Brandon should host, but let's establish a new procedure. I have a suggestion. When voting let's say we have a "Best Overall Character", if you vote for "Ussej Padric Bac", you can't vote for "Narod Antrell" and vice versa. One vote per category. Xwing327 23:33, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that rule is already established. --Victor, Sr. HoloNet 209 00:24, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
I mentioned to Vic before (and he agrees) that it'd be interesting if he and I were co-hosts. That way, when establishing rules that make more sense and in picking initial nominations, it's not one person with one opinion doing that. You have two hosts picking them, which leaves out the bias. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 02:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hm, I like that idea. -Solus (Bird of Prey) 02:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ooo... Jacen and Niathal... Just kidding. I like that idea. --C3PO the Dragon Slayer 6,000,000 forms of communication | Dragons I've Slayed 04:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- And please, for the love of all things good and right, either remove or rename "Most speciest author". "Speciest" is not and won't be a word for the foreseeable future. Seriously. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 04:44, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- I wasn't active during the last two awards ceremonies, so I don't have any idea what they are like. However, it seems like everyone agrees that better/more rules are needed. I wasn't here long enough to decide who should host these awards, but I believe that Brandon Rhea and Squishy Vic would be excellent candidates. Good luck to all those who would like to win an award. Too bad I didn't write any good articles yet. Michaeldsuarez (Activate Holocron) 21:59, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Having the wiki awards at the year's beginning sounds acceptable. After all, having it in the middle of the year isn't fair, as articles after June may be of better content and quality than the winners. Febuary would probably be the best. Dec-Jan are two of the busiest months of the year, with Christmas and New Years going on. Feb is when everyone starts winding down. I think one of the Cabal should host it, and that pretty much narrows it down to Brandon and Vic, maybe 3P0. They're the only ones of the Cabal really active here.-- You Speak, I've Spoken 22:17, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- But, but...what about the greatest admin ever? *Points to self* Oh well, it wouldn't matter anyways. I really don't want to host it, because I'm about as biased as they come. So I really wouldn't be a good judge now would I? Vic and Brandon get my support. Jesus Freak NK says NK's 'mazin' articles 14:32, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- LOL! Sorry NKSCF! I forgot you were were an Admin. But being a host isn't an extraordinary task. You'd probably do fine if you were elected. And beating a biased tendency is easy: just open a window with the article and a window with the requirements, then compare them . -- You Speak, I've Spoken 16:57, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Actually, if you guys agree to let me and Vic do this, then it will be a pretty big task because we need to come up with some better rules, better categories and start off each category with three initial nominees. It will take some time to do. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 17:20, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Question: Will the new rules prohibit the nominating the winner of a category from a previous year in the same category? -Solus (Bird of Prey) 20:14, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes. For example, Bendu Order cannot be nominated for Best Government. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 20:47, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
How about this for nomination and voting process: HPs/DLs nominate and vote, community votes, and hosts break ties. Kind of the converse of Featured Article selections (where the community kinda nominates and the DLs vote). Anyway, I recall that the past times we had this there were either too many or too few nominees per category. Everyone wanted their Jedi or Sith or whatever to be the winner, and the nominations were on a first come-first serve basis. If the task is up to the HPs and DLs to nominate, the community can focus more on voting and we can have relatively unbiased nominees. --C3PO the Dragon Slayer 6,000,000 forms of communication | Dragons I've Slayed 03:03, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't really like that idea, as it'll take far too long. What Vic and I were talking about doing, assuming we become the hosts, is to nominate two or three articles for each category from the get-go. None of these articles would be our articles, but rather articles we feel that represent the best of each category. When those are posted, which would be immediately upon the start of the nomination process, users can nominate articles for two weeks and there would be no limit on the number of nominations per category, thereby taking out the first come/first serve basis. As far as there being too few nominees, that's because there were too many categories. We would limit the number of categories which would take out the "too few" situation. Having the hosts nominate two or three articles off the bat would also take out that situation. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 20:05, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm willing to see how that would turn out. So... seeing nobody really has a problem with you and Vic being hosts, should we get started with this? Put up the page where the nominees go? Draft new rules? If we want to do this around January, we'd better start now. --C3PO the Dragon Slayer 6,000,000 forms of communication | Dragons I've Slayed 21:34, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Brandon and I already calculated that, therefore nominations will begin on January 1, 2008. Nomination period will end January 15, and in turn the voting process will initiate. After a month, on February 15, the voting period/Third SWFanon Wiki Awards will be over, and the winners announced. --Victor, Sr. HoloNet 209 21:49, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Considering what 3PO said (there being no one who is opposed to us being hosts), I'll just close this off. If anyone has any questions or considerations for new rules or anything like that, feel free to make a new thread. - President Brandon Rhea (Pressroom) (Accomplishments) 00:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
