Star Wars Fanon

Forums > Senate Hall > A nice gesture from TheForce.Net.

I encourage you all to go and take a look at the Fan Fiction boards on TheForce.Net's Jedi Council Boards. If you look at the boards titled "Fan Fiction Resource", "Before the Saga", "The Saga" and "Beyond the Saga", you'll see that there's a new link in their headers: "SW Fanon Wiki". "The_Face", one of the mods for the Fan Fic board, was gracious enough to put it there and I believe (although I'm not sure) that Katana Geldar had something to do with it. They didn't have to do this, but it's a great gesture that hopefully will attract new members.

It's also a nice endorsement, because this is the largest Star Wars message board on the internet telling us that Star Wars Fanon is worthy of being showcased in their header for all fan fiction lurkers to see. I'm posting the link to this thread in the SW Fanon thread in Fan Fic Resource, so be sure to give your thanks! Smile - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 23:57, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Indeed. -- Joe Butler (Obi Maul12) (Chow) 00:16, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, TheForce.Net (assuming they're clicking this out)! --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 00:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Vic for putting it up, I'm hoping to see more contributions as a result of this. Katana Geldar 21:50, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

PARTNERS NOW! :P Thanks TFN! --Victor Vic sig logo talk 02:58, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

  • I thought about that. Obviously TheForce.Net doesn't do the "official partner" thing, but it would be a nice way to return the gesture. I could ask the fan fic mods if they'd be open to it. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 03:01, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I know for a time we got an influx of new users specifically from TFN, from the Role Playing Forum. They contributed for awhile (and made interesting user pages, lol) but since then have not. I heard some complaining we were too uncreative (one incident was because they saw Mical as NKSCF and another was Luke as someone else, forgot) and another complaint was that we were too difficult to navigate. Either way, others (like Katana herself) have actually enjoyed SWF so yeah, I think that'd be cool. And I'm pretty sure TFN does the partner thing, because they're partners with Wookieepedia. --Victor Vic sig logo talk 03:35, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

  • I hope they're open to the idea of a partnership. If they reject the idea due any of the complaints Victor mentioned, then it's just a sign that we need to change a few things in order to make the wiki more appreciable to a wider range of users. --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 03:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, that doesn't really have anything to do with our set up. First off, our Wiki has come a long ways since then, and secondly, it was a user's matter of preference. He just didn't like seeing canon images of canon characters used for fanon characters (that weren't the same) and that is pretty natural, considering I don't really like that either, because when I see the fanon character I feel more like I'm looking at the canon character. The other thing, about navigation, I believe is actually a matter of experience. Some people find it harder to navigate because they may not know exactly how categories work and therefore might not exactly understand how to group their own articles and find them again in the future. I know that this was the case with a few TFN role players, who had to learn Wiki coding and how a Wiki works too. But I would hope they wouldn't oppose on that basis, we'll see. --Victor Vic sig logo talk 03:49, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Woops. Sorry. --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 04:03, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it was me who asked Face to put it up there before he went on vacation. It seemed fitting as Wookieepedia is linked on the Lit board. Katana Geldar 06:16, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Yay, thanks a lot! :) --Victor Vic sig logo talk 06:17, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that, Katana. --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 06:19, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I can tell you what is sorely needed over there, though, people who are willing to help explain how to use the Fanon Wiki. I've tried many times as you can see here and Brandon comes around from time to time, but I've only been on here a little while and I am still learning. Katana Geldar 07:02, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Awesome! Thanks Katana! And on a side note, I'd like to offer my services to any user there that needs assistance.-- CurrentBigThing (Speak) 09:34, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
    • Cool. Hopefully some of the better stuff here might catch the eye of some of the guys over there. Unit 83111110 Big smallTalk! 15:19, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

I'll come out of "retirement" and will do my best to post some sort of guide in the forums to the basics of a Wiki and the specifics of ours. --Victor Vic sig logo talk 18:02, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

What might be a good idea, Vic, is if you put together a tutorial to be posted here at Star Wars Fanon:Tutorial or whatever. We could then link those at TF.N to it. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 18:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

If it'll help, you could provide a link to w:Help:Tutorial also. --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 18:27, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Brandon: I might do that, but for now, I posted a small tutorial here. I barely looked at this forum again after leaving my last message, because since then I was writing up that post. Anyway, Michael, I will link them to them in a bit. For now, I have to go. --Victor Vic sig logo talk 18:48, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Good job on that, Victor. --Michaeldsuarez Sabersmilygreend (Talk) (Deeds) 18:52, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, and I actually don't have to go. So I'll link them to that Wikia tutorial now. --Victor Vic sig logo talk 19:17, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

My internet is working fine, so is TFN messed up for anyone else? I'm trying to edit my post to include the Wikia links and its not working. I always dreaded this! --Victor Vic sig logo talk 19:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

It's working fine for me. If you give me the links and tell me where to put them, I'll edit them into your post for you. - Brandon Rhea (talk) (contribs) 19:29, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

It's alright, I double posted instead. I think I just had too much HTML in the post so it wouldn't save - used to happen all the time when I used to RP there (too much HTML timesout the script, hence why the post wasn't saving). --Victor Vic sig logo talk 19:30, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that, Vic, it's a good little spiel. Katana Geldar 12:14, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Had a bit of interest over there and I'm contacting the OC database to see about some sort of collab as they're shortly between challenges. Thanks for the info posted there about witing, Vic and Brandon. I;'m currently doing a "for dummies" one about writing articles as people don't usually know where to start. Katana Geldar
Great news guys! The OC data base over there has agreed to do a collab for their next challenge. They realise that there are requirements over here for articles and I'll be answering quetsions about what we ask of people for creating articles. It would be great if more exprerienced Fanon wikians could help out. Katana Geldar 22:37, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
